Riley 14/6 Alpine Tourer. (1931-33)
The open market had originally been catered for on the larger 14/6 chassis with the Hancock & Warman built Tourer. However, following a fire at their Coventry works, the business was closed, and Riley had to quickly produce a replacement. The end result was the Alpine Tourer, which was presumably closely related to the Alpine Saloon, itself a renaming of the old Light Six Saloon to match the Alpine name. The car featured front hinged front doors, a rare thing on a 1930s Riley, with cut outs similar to those of the later Lynx. However, the car was built somewhat taller than the Lynx, despite its Alpine Saloon base.
Whilst it is theoretically possible to differentiate between the Alpine Tourer and its predecessor with chassis numbers, records cannot be assumed to be correct, so between the two models it is likely that around 175-200 were built, the vast majority being Alpine models.
