Riley 14/6 Kestrel. (1932-34)

The 14/6 chassis was the first to recieve the new streamlined fastback Kestrel body. The beautiful flowing lines, covering a 4-door 4-seater body were (and still are) stylishly elegant. The low roofline was produced by dropping the footwells either side of the Transmission tunnel. This also allowed a much lower, sportier driving position. Combined with the lower bonnet height, the car looked much sleeker and sportier than any previous 6 cylinder Riley, and would have been quite unlike almost any other car on the road at the time.
The 14/6 Kestrel was on sale for 2 years, before it was replaced by the more advanced 15/6 in 1934. However, the success of the model prompted Riley into adapting the body for both the 9 and 12/6 chassis'.
Whilst it was only ever produced on the 44T chassis, there is little to differntiate a genuine 14/6 Kestrel from a re-engined 12/6, for instance, in old records. However, based on the data we have, it appears that around 200-250 14/6 Kestrels were built over the 2 years.
