Riley 14/6 Alpine Fabric Saloon. (1931-33)

Riley 14/6 Alpine Fabric Saloon

The Alpine Saloon was the updated Light-Six Saloon, and now available as a Fabric Saloon, or Half-Panelled Saloon. It was built on the Shorter of the two chassis used for the 6-cylinder cars and provided a slightly smaller model than the coachbuilt Stelvio II. There was only one difference between the fabric and half panelled versions of the Alpine, with the latter having steel panels below the waist while this model was externally entirely fabric bodied apart from the bonnet and wings.
It is now impossible to differentiate between the Alpine models and the earlier Saloon from chassis number data alone. However, between the 4 models approximately 350 were built, and it is likely that as fabric bodies went out of fashion, the fabric Alpine accounted for somewhat less than one third of these. Indeed, for 1933 the Alpine became an all steel car.
