Riley 14/6 Sportsmans Fabric Coupe. (1931)

A new coupe model was added to the 14/6 range for 1931, being the Sportsmans Coupe. Curiously, it was built up on the longer of the two chassis, when a shorter chassis would seem more appropriate on a Coupe model. However, as no photos of the model are known, it was only offered for a single year and none have so far ever been identified in old records, it suggests that perhaps the model was never actually built. The fact that fabric bodied cars were starting to go out of fashion won't have helped, although the following year the equally scarce Ascot 14/6 was offered.
To add to the general confusion, an Alpine Coupe is also listed and promoted by Riley in 1931/2. The body pictured is almost identical to the Ascot 9, so it is assumed to be the Ascot 14/6, but it is possible that it is the Sportsmans model.
