Riley 9 Victor. (1938)
1938 Riley 9 Victor
The car was essentially the same as the Victor 1½, with the smaller 9 engine under the same Briggs Bodywork. The engine was mounted slightly further forward than before to improve front legroom. By the time it was launched, Briggs had already turned over to production of the revised 'Touring Saloon' body, suggesting that this was a desparate attempt to clear some of the older, stockpiled, bodies.
The car failed to sell well, partly because of the price (£299) being the same for both models, and people chose the more powerful 1½ model. It was withdrawn early in 1938 when the receivers were called in. No more than 60 are thought to have been built, perhaps less.
