1938 Riley 1½ Touring Saloon

The Touring Saloon was a new model with the joint purpose of replacing the Falcon and Continental. The Touring Saloon featured the Falcon Chassis with the revised Briggs body and it's slightly ungainly boot bulge. The same model was offered with the nine engine, but proved even less popular. Few took to the official name, and most dealers continued to sell them as Falcons. Indeed, many of the Falcons that have been recorded over the years (without an accompanying Chassis Number) may in fact be '28FX's. Confusion also exists between this model and the previous Continental Touring Saloon in old records. However, it is estimated that approximately 90-130 were built.
Aside from the new rear trunk, the Touring Saloon featured the new for 1938 chrome slat radiator shell, and chrome bumpers, the rear one having a larger bulge around the spare wheel cover than previous Merlin and Falcon cars.
